Selection Procedures and Benefits Overview

Requirements For An Entry-Level Police Officer:         
A high school education or its equivalent as recognized by the Georgia Department of Education. (Minimum GED score of 45 per section - total 225).
Minimum age limit to apply is twenty (20) years. Applicants must reach the age of 21 prior to graduating the academy.
Pass the physical readiness test, assessment center, physical examination, drug screen, psychological exam, and background investigation (polygraph included).
Willing to work in harmony and on any shift assignment.
Must be a citizen of the United States.
Must possess a valid drivers license. Required to have a valid Georgia license by hire date.

Selection Procedure:
Once an applicant successfully completes the Assessment Center he/she will undergo an extensive background investigation. The desirable applicants will be scheduled for an interview.  Once an offer of employment is made, the applicant will be required to successfully complete a medical physical, drug screening, polygraph, and psychological examination.

Salary
The salary changes each year based on cost of living increases.  The starting salary and benefits for police officers are very competitive with other area law enforcement agencies.  Current entry-level salary as of December 2009 is $1,093.74 bi-weekly.

 Pay Period:
Payroll week starts on Monday and continues to two weeks ending on a Sunday.  Employees are paid on a bi-weekly basis.  Direct Deposit is available for all employees with a financial institution of their choice.

Overtime
The city conforms to all laws applicable to the Fair Labor Standards Act. 

Annual Leave: 
Annual leave begins to accrue from day one of employment and may be taken after six months.
As a new hire full time, employee leave accrues at the rate of 3 hours bi-weekly for the first three years.
From three years to fifteen years, leave is accrued at 4 2/3 hours bi-weekly.
For fifteen year or more years, is accrued at 6 hours bi-weekly.

Sick Leave 
Sick leave is accrued for all full time employees regardless of years of service at a rate of 3 hours bi-weekly.
  Unused sick leave may be accumulated and used towards retirement. 

Holidays: 
Eleven paid holidays per year. 

Health Plan: 
The City of Warner Robins is self-insured and pays medical premiums for all full-time employees.  There is a small bi-weekly premium for dependants paid by the employee.  Dental and eye care plans are also available.  

Life Insurance: 
The City of Warner Robins provides life insurance for Fire and Police employees to $30,000.00 with additional coverage sold in $10,000.00 increments at $1.62 bi-weekly with maximum coverage being capped at $50,000.00 at a premium cost of $3.23 bi-weekly.  Regular City employees to include Booking Officers, TeleServe Operators, and support personnel are covered to $20,000.00.
The City provides $1,000.00 Basic Life Insurance on dependents of full time employees at no charge to the employee.  Optional coverage is available for $0.18 bi-weekly which gives a total Live Insurance Benefit coverage of $2,000.00 coverage on each dependent. 

Deferred Compensation: 
Employees may contribute a portion of their salary to a tax deferred savings plan.  Several companies are available. 

Retirement: 
The City of Warner Robins has its retirement account secured with the Georgia Municipal Association.  Law Enforcement and Fire plan established as follows:
Vestment is at 10 years of service
Retirement set based upon highest 5 year average of employee salary
Normal retirement rate set at 25 years of service
Early retirement rate set at 16 years of service
Included cost of living adjustments once retired

Probationary Period:
Probationary Period for newly hired employees is 365 days of service.  This period is a practical working test.  Once satisfied, the Director grants the employee regular status. 
 

Educational Reimbursemet:
Full time non-probationary employees qualify for college level tuition reimbursement.
